Know What's Next on Every Multi-Week Job and See the Slip Early

Lay the job out on a board and a dated Gantt schedule. Link the steps that depend on each other, and when one slips, see every date it pushes before you change a thing.

Included on every plan. A company admin turns it on in Settings > Features & Modules.

Example: kitchen remodel, 6-week plan

One Late Inspection Moves Three Crews

The rough-in inspection was set for Thursday. The inspector can't get there until the following Tuesday. Drywall was booked for Friday, cabinets the week after, and the finish carpenter after that. When the plan lives in your head or on a whiteboard, somebody finds out by showing up to a job that isn't ready.

Here's the math on a 6-week kitchen remodel: that inspection slips 3 working days. Drywall, cabinets, and finish work each move 3 working days with it, and the last day of the job goes from Fri 02/19/2027 to Wed 02/24/2027. If you told the homeowner they'd have their kitchen by Mon 02/22/2027, you are now two days late, and you want to know that the day the inspector called, not the week the cabinets show up.

Project Management keeps that chain of dates in one place. You link each step to the one it waits on, and when one date moves, BD Project Tools shows you everything it pushes and which promises it breaks, before anything changes.

How Project Management Works

You build the plan from the office computer or a tablet. It stays tied to the estimates you sold, so you are not retyping the job.

1

Start a Project From the Estimate

Open an estimate and click Create project plan, or start a Project from the project list and link estimates to it. Click Import job tasks to bring in the tasks already on those estimates, their change orders, and their jobs. Importing again later adds only the new ones.

2

Lay It Out on the Board

Tasks land on a board with To do, In progress, and Done columns that you can rename, reorder, or add to. Add milestones for the dates that matter, like "Cabinets delivered." Drag cards between columns or use their Move controls, and assign each task to named people on your team.

3

Put Dates and Links on the Gantt

Switch to Gantt. Enter a Start date and a Duration in working days, and the Finish fills in from your working week. Link each task to the one it waits on, with lag in working or calendar days if a slab needs a week to cure. Add a deadline to any task you promised by a date.

4

Set a Baseline, Then Watch for Slip

Once the plan is agreed, set a baseline. From then on, the Gantt shows the original dates as ghost bars and tells you how many working days each task has slipped. When a date moves later, the cascade preview shows every task it pushes before you apply anything.

Cascade Preview

The Inspector Calls. Here's What Moves.

Same kitchen remodel. You move the rough-in inspection from Thu 01/21/2027 to Tue 01/26/2027, and the preview lays out the knock-on.

Example: review linked changes
Preview, not applied
+3 working days
+3 working days
+3 working days
+3 working days
Apply: all three move in one step Your baseline still holds the original plan, so Finish work shows as 3 working days later than planned.
Deadline breach flagged Finish work now ends after its 02/22/2027 deadline. You have to acknowledge that before the change applies.

Decline instead, and the inspection date you entered stays saved while the links that are now short stay flagged on the Gantt until you deal with them. Pinned tasks keep their dates, and the preview flags any pinned task that is in the way.

What's in Project Management

One plan per Project, three ways to look at it, and every change logged.

Board

Columns and cards for every task and milestone. Open a card for its details, assignees, and activity. Moving a card to Done marks it complete, and moving it back restores the progress it had.

Dated Gantt Schedule

Edit Start, Duration, Deadline, and Pinned right in the task table, and the bars redraw. On a computer with a mouse, drag a bar to move it or drag its right edge to change the duration. Deadlines show as lines, and a missed one is flagged.

Finish-to-Start Links

Drywall can't start until the inspection passes. Link the two, add lag in working or calendar days, and any link that is now short gets flagged on the timeline. A link that would loop back on itself is refused.

Cascade Preview

Move a finish later and see the proposed dates for every linked task drawn as second bars, plus any deadline breaches and pinned-task conflicts. Apply it all in one step or decline. Shortening a task never pulls the next ones earlier by itself.

Baselines and Slip

Save the agreed plan as a baseline from the Gantt toolbar. Ghost bars show where each task was supposed to be, and the table states the slip in working days. Re-set it when the plan changes on purpose; the activity log records each one.

Company Portfolio

Every Project on one timeline across the September to June planning season, with deadline breaches and baseline slip for each. Filter by status or My projects, and expand any row for its task detail. Managers can adjust plan dates right there.

Import Tasks From Estimates

Pull in the active tasks from the linked estimates, their change orders, and their jobs. Imported tasks stay editable in the plan, and when your crew checks off the matching job task in the field, the check-off shows on the card.

Your Working Week

Plans start on a Monday to Friday week. Work Saturdays? Change it in PM settings and durations count your real working days. Changing it never quietly rewrites saved dates; you review the notice and recalculate on purpose.

CSV Export

Export any Project's task list, with dates, durations, deadlines, assignees, and predecessors, or the whole portfolio summary. Hand it to a GC, a sub, or your own spreadsheet. Exporting never changes the plan.

🧩 How It Fits

Projects, Jobs, and Estimates

In BD Project Tools, a job is the customer work you track time, receipts, and photos against, and an estimate is what you priced and sold. A Project is the plan for getting the work done. It lives under Project Management, next to Jobs and Estimates in the app's Jobs menu.

A Project links to one or more estimates, and each estimate can belong to only one Project. Change orders come along with their estimate. Through those estimates, the Project pulls in tasks from the jobs they belong to, so a single Project can cover one job or several. Linking never changes the estimate's own dates, unlinking keeps the tasks you already imported, and you can build a Project from scratch with no estimate at all.

Estimate + Change Orders
Import Job Tasks
Board + Gantt
Portfolio

Project Management is the plan, not the crew calendar. Scheduler and the Dispatch Board still handle who works where each day.

Board: tasks and a milestone moving through To do, In progress, an added Inspection column, and Done
Task details: link the step a task waits on, set the lag, and see the activity log
Gantt: dated bars, finish-to-start links, a milestone, baseline bars, and today's line
Task table: baseline dates, slip in working days (Electrical rough-in is 1 working day late), and each task's predecessors
Portfolio: projects on one timeline, with saved plan dates and deadline breaches

Who It's For

Remodelers and Builders

Multi-week jobs with a dozen steps in a strict order. Start the plan from the estimate you sold, link the steps, and know the day a slip threatens the date you promised the homeowner.

Contractors Juggling Subs and Inspections

When the plumber, the inspector, and the drywall crew all wait on each other, finish-to-start links and the cascade preview tell you who to call before anyone shows up early.

Owners Running Several Jobs at Once

The portfolio puts every Project on one timeline with its deadline breaches and slip, so Monday's meeting starts with the jobs that need attention instead of a round of phone calls.

Project Management FAQ

How does a Project relate to my jobs and estimates?

A job is the customer work you track time, receipts, and photos against, and an estimate is what you priced and sold. A Project is the plan for doing the work. It links to one or more estimates, and each estimate can belong to only one Project. Change orders come along with their estimate. Through those estimates, a Project can import tasks from the jobs they belong to, so one Project can cover one job or several. Linking never changes an estimate's dates, unlinking keeps the tasks you already imported, and you can also build a Project from scratch with no estimate.

Is Project Management turned on for my company?

It is included on every plan, but it starts switched off for each company. A company admin turns it on in Settings > Features & Modules. Switching it off later hides it from your team without deleting any project data.

When one task slips, does everything else move automatically?

No. When you move a task's finish later, the change you made is saved and BD Project Tools offers a cascade preview of the later dates for every linked task it pushes, along with any deadline it would now miss and any pinned task in the way. Nothing else moves until you apply it. If you decline, your edit stays and the short links stay flagged on the Gantt. Shortening a task never pulls the tasks after it earlier on its own.

Can I use it on my phone?

Project Management is built for the office computer or a tablet. On a phone, the board and the Gantt task table still work for quick date and status updates; dragging bars on the timeline is desktop only. By default, admins, office managers, and project managers can change plans, while viewer, accountant, sales, and scheduler roles can read them. Field crew and estimator roles do not get access by default. Your crew keeps checking off job tasks in the field app, and those check-offs show on the matching imported cards.

Does it replace the Scheduler?

No. Scheduler and the Dispatch Board handle who works where each day. Project Management is the plan for the whole job: what has to happen, in what order, and by when. Assigning someone to a task in a Project does not create a shift for them.

Can I get the plan out of the app?

Yes. Export any Project's task list to CSV from its board, with each task's dates, duration in working days, deadline, column, completion, assignees, and predecessors. You can also export the portfolio summary. Exporting never changes the plan.

Is Project Management an extra charge?

No. Project Management is part of the full BD Project Tools platform, which is included on every plan.
